Soldier of Fortune is a video game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows in 2000. It was later ported to Linux, Dreamcast and PlayStation 2.

Plot[]

The player takes the role of John Mullins, a mercenary on the United Nation's payroll, in a mission to recover weapons of mass destruction stolen from a Russian storage facility.

Development[]

The game was built around a modified version of the Quake II engine by id Software (also known as id Tech 2). It uses Raven's own GHOUL model damage system to allow the ability to give enemies gruesome wounds and even rip off limbs.

Reception[]

The game received mostly positive reviews, with an 82% average at GameRankings.[1] However, the console versions received poorer reviews.
